Virtual Author Visits
Back to School Visits

A Virtual Author Visit with author Sudipta Bardhan-Quallen is an effective way to connect your students to an author that can be both economical and intimate. In each group, Sudipta will focus on your students' particular needs and interests. Their burning questions can be answered in a way that is warm and personal. As long as they can see the screen, the students will feel like they are a part of the conversation.

The format of Sudipta's Virtual Visits is loose and comfortable. She starts with a short introductory presentation, but then opens the floor up to your students' questions. The way each presentation evolves depends on the audience but always concentrates on motivating the students to read and write. For grades 2 and up, the Virtual Visits are 50 minutes long. For younger children, the sessions are 30 minutes. In addition, Sudipta welcomes you to schedule a free 15 minute follow up session within four weeks of the original Virtual Visit. This not only reinforces the lessons Sudipta has shared, but it allows your students to ask those burning questions that they didn’t remember the first time around!

Using easily available and free software like Skype, your students can “meet” an author at a fraction of the cost of an in-person author visit. The honorarium for one session is $250; for two sessions on the same days, the honorarium is $350.

In addition, Sudipta offers a limited number of free 15 minute "Meet the Author" Virtual Visits every month. These slots fill up quickly, so please contact her booking agent Anna Boll, of Creative Bookings by email if you would like to be added to the schedule or to the waiting list.

"My classroom and I won the privilege of an author's visit from Sudipta Bardhan-Quallen via Skype! I cannot tell you how excited my fourth grade students were to Skype with her after hearing Hampire and Chicks Run Wild. Sudipta was amazing, because after e-mailing back and forth she was very receptive to teaching a writing lesson to my students. During the Skype session she talked about her family, which is a big influence for her writing topics. My students thought she was very funny, but I would say she is absolutely charming! All eyes were on her when we were Skyping. When she led students through the writing exercise the kids took the task very seriously. Ultimately, they created very meaningful starting points for their writing thanks to Sudipta's guidance, and they were thrilled that they got personal feedback from her during the session. I think that many of my students really saw themselves as “real” writers after receiving her feedback. My favorite part, however, (and I think the students', too!) was hearing her read a new book that's not even on the bookstore shelf yet- that was truly exciting for us!"
